Evaluation question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

When creating my products throughout my coursework project, i aimed to maintain the same house style which all conveyed the same ideologies, however allowing them open to interpretations, therefore complimenting each other with the same messages and beliefs. I did this as i felt they are intended to be part of one promotional package, therefore they should all convey the same meanings without either of them looking absurd or odd.

When i was conducting ancillary text and music video research, i noticed that the whole aesthetics and style fit to their genre and remained very similar throughout all texts. However this is a convention i tried to challenge, but using the idea I've challenge it to remain continuity. My products looked edgy, imperfect and kind of all over the place in terms of my digipak and magazine advert. On the other hand i used the aesthetic style and manipulated it into its own little story, therefore when the audience consumes it you have to understand all 3 products to then realise it is one story that has come together through the ideologies and connotations in every detail surrounding each feature. However next time if i was to do this and improve my aesthetic style, i'd get more images relating more to the initial ideology of the song, being about the truth, tyranny and control. For example i used a picture of an ambulance to connote the hospital as to where my patient is. However i used the pictures of my band in the same costume, as i wanted the indie rock aesthetic style for them as they suit the specific genre,  initially i thought they'd have been but the images used conformed to my specific genre and aesthetic style. I wanted a fairly young aesthetic style, relating back to Hall's reception theory the dominant viewers are young people, therefore they can instantly relate to whats going on in the video, because they can see themselves as the character and linking back to the surveillance distinction of the uses of gratification theory they can then secure themselves after understanding the aesthetics, due to relation to experiences under tyranny.

Conclusion
In conclusion i feel like i have created three products that build up a strong combination in order to form one function and that is to promote them all for one purpose. Whilst maybe i could have made my ancillary texts more conventional as some consumers may not think that they combine together and unify to create the most appealing and well linked products, however they was not the only factors i thought about when creating them. My main aim was to create this prolonged morality story that is being 'told' within the hidden semiotics and ideologies, which also acts as an extended metaphor in English language. The unconventional idea i was going for in fact worked quite the opposite  in creating a successful combination and allowing the target audience to engage on a deeper level and not just the aesthetic style, but in fact looking deeper into every individual detail
